Arts Walk in Downtown Middlebury, VT

On the second Friday of every month, downtown Middlebury, VT comes alive with folks milling around the Middlebury Arts Walk. This event is a way to honor those who give creatively to our community and celebrate all forms of art! You will see the characteristic “pink boot” that indicates participating locations and this year there are more than 30 venues that are involved in displaying all kinds of art. 

The arts walk is held from 5-7pm and as participating stores remain open, you will find art, music, food and fun as you walk around downtown. You will see regular stores and restaurants transform into galleries displaying the work of dozens of area artists. Some of the places worth paying a visit to include:

Lake Champlain Maritime Festival - South Burlington VT

South Burlington, VT, located along the shores of the beautiful Lake Champlain is the perfect setting for the Lake Champlain Maritime Festival. This summer highlight event celebrates the past, present and future of this fantastic area and the Burlington Waterfront.   As an anchor city of the surrounding metropolitan area, it is a prime location to host such an event, which brings many visitors from all over each year. 

This year marks the 8th anniversary for the Maritime Festival, which will take place August 7-10, 2014, and each time it comes around it just gets better and better. During the four-day celebration, you can expect a host of wonderful activities, things to do, places to see and people to meet. Hundreds of exhibits will be showcased along the waterfront so you can stroll along and take your time checking them all out. If you are a boat fanatic, there will be a myriad of classic boats and long boats to admire plus Dragon boat demonstrations. 

Take in the Antique Boat Show and Parade, eat some great local food and enjoy some fantastic live music. There will be four superb musical acts headlining the main stage for this year’s evening concerts, which are ticketed events. Be sure to catch one or enjoy them all if you are up for it! Taking the stage will be Umphrey’s McGee, The Offspring with Bad Religion, Pennywise and The Vandals, The Avett Brothers, and Buddy Guy. This festival truly offers something for everyone and gives you a chance to experience all that the vibrant community of Burlington has to offer.

Addison County Fair and Field Days – New Haven, VT

If you are looking for a great summer fair to go to with a hometown feel, then the Addison County Fair & Field Days is one you don’t want to miss. This is a wonderful family-friendly fair that will take place August 5-9th, 2014 in the beautiful New Haven, VT. Considered Vermont’s largest agricultural fair, this event provides the opportunity for local citizens to showcase the wonderful goods they have produced. For everyone else, loads of fun can be found at every corner—young or old, everyone in the family will find something fun to do!

Some of the highlights to look forward to include a children’s barnyard, tractor pulls, the Maple Sugar House, Twist O’ Wool Guild demonstrations, home and garden exhibits, craft demonstrations, cattle judging, live entertainment, carnival rides for all ages, yummy food, parade, 4-H and open class animal shows and more. You won’t find yourself in a zoo of people, shoulder to shoulder as you walk around and all of the facilities are clean and laid out to where you can easily find your way around. Hiking the Great Trails Around Middlebury, VT

With the Adirondacks to the west and the Green Mountains to the east, Middlebury, VT is surrounded by incredible beauty. There is great fun to be had no matter what season of the year you are here but summer is an especially fun time to visit Swift House Inn and take part in all that the area has to offer. Hiking near Swift House Inn

There is a wide variety of hiking in this area. Whether you are looking for a challenge to add to the books or a relaxing jaunt after enjoying one of our gourmet breakfasts, you’ll find something to suit your taste.

The Long Trail in the Green Mountains
This is actually considered the oldest long distance hiking trail in America. It’s a pretty rugged area with varied terrain but its 273-mile footpath and 175 miles of side trails offers choices for hikers of all levels. Even though it has a backcountry nature, it is well marked.

Snake Mountain
The highlight of hiking here is the scenery with beautiful views of Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains making every step worthwhile. It is a moderate hike that generally takes around 2 hours to complete the 3.6 miles round trip trail. There are some flat areas and some winding spots that have you surrounded by beautiful forest. You may also come across some white-tailed deer, cottontail rabbit, and turkey along the way.

The Moosalamoo National Recreation Area is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. There are more than 70 miles of well-maintained trails, offering different views and challenges. For an “educational” stop, check out the Robert Frost Interpretive Trail or try the Falls of Lana and Silver Lake Trails for a moderate hiking day with spectacular scenery.

Trail Around Middlebury (TAM)
Take an easy trek on this great trail, which is a footpath over 16 miles long that encircles the village of Middlebury. There are several trail sections to choose from and a great way to see our beautiful area.
